Fairbuds 2: Certifiably better in many ways
Fairphone’s Fairbuds 2 earbuds introduce modular design, PFAS-free certification, and top repairability score, aiming to reduce e-waste and improve durability.
Fairbuds 2 surpasses its predecessor with improved sound quality and sustainability, featuring LONGTIME® certification, PFAS-free exterior, and a 10/10 repairability score from iFixit. The earbuds are designed for longevity with seven replaceable parts, including individual batteries in both buds and the charging case, addressing the short lifespan common in wireless earbuds.
The LONGTIME® certification, an independent European label, confirms the Fairbuds 2 are engineered for durability and reliability, aligning with Fairphone’s broader commitment to sustainable products. This certification also applies to the Fairbuds XL and Fairphone’s line of sustainable cables and chargers, reinforcing the company’s focus on long-lasting design.
The Fairbuds 2 contain 48.6% fair and recycled materials by total weight, including recycled plastics and rare-earth elements, while excluding PFAS substances. SGS, a global testing and certification company, has audited and verified the absence of PFAS in all plastics and silicone materials that contact the user’s skin, reducing risks of toxic exposure during use.
iFixit has awarded the Fairbuds 2 a perfect 10/10 repairability score due to its glue-free assembly and modular construction, enabling easy replacement of parts like batteries. This design allows users to repair worn components instead of discarding the entire device, promoting cost savings and sustainability. The earbuds are available for purchase on fairphone.com.
