Framework announced a new Wireless Touchpad Keyboard, a compact device featuring an integrated touchpad, aimed at improving ergonomics for living room computing, desktop configurations, and simulator setups. The keyboard leverages the same mechanical key structure and touchpad design found in Framework Laptop 12, ensuring consistency with existing products. It supports up to four Bluetooth and USB-A hosts via a Nordic nRF54 radio and ZMK Firmware, alongside wired USB-C connectivity, with a dongle stored within the keyboard itself.

The device includes a 68.8mm x 85.6mm Windows Precision Touchpad, enabling multi-finger gestures on Windows and Linux systems. A USB-A Adapter Expansion Card is in development to allow the keyboard to integrate flush with Framework Laptops or Desktops. The keyboard’s slim yet rigid design features a translucent black bottom cover, revealing internal components, and maintains 1.5mm key travel with 19mm spacing, mirroring Framework’s laptop keyboards.

Framework collaborated with Lite-On, the manufacturer behind keyboards and touchpads for all Framework Laptop versions over the past five years, to produce the device. The company has released open-source surface CAD files to support the creation of 3D-printed mounts and accessories, particularly useful for sim rig applications. The rechargeable battery, designed for easy replacement, will be available in the Framework Marketplace, aligning with the company’s modular product philosophy.

The Control Board, containing the core electronics, will also be sold separately in the Marketplace to enable custom wireless keyboard designs. Framework is offering free Control Boards to developers through an application process to accelerate ecosystem growth. The Wireless Touchpad Keyboard is expected to launch later in the year, with further updates to follow as development and manufacturing progress.
