Unity has introduced Unity Spark, a browser-based generative AI tool for designing and iterating on 3D games using text prompts, developed in partnership with Google. The platform operates entirely within desktop browsers and does not require downloads, targeting users aged 18 and over. Unity Spark integrates with the Unity Asset Store, allowing users to select and incorporate assets directly into their projects through natural language prompts. The tool is designed to assist users in refining game art and mechanics, with multiple AI agents capable of working simultaneously on different aspects of a project.

Unity Spark is not intended to generate complete games from single prompts but instead focuses on enabling iterative, collaborative creation. Users can share project links for real-time collaboration, and finished projects can be published on Google’s Playground platform. However, at launch, projects cannot be downloaded or exported to the full Unity desktop engine, nor can they be sold commercially. The editor is limited to desktop browsers, though games created with it are playable on both desktop and mobile browsers.

Access to Unity Spark will use a credit-based system tied to AI tokens, with a free tier available initially. Detailed pricing structures have not yet been finalized, and the primary goal of the system is to lower barriers to game creation rather than generate revenue. Unity CEO Matt Bromberg emphasized the platform’s aim to empower creators who lack coding skills or formal training, framing it as a step toward democratizing game development.

Unity has been expanding its suite of generative AI tools, including features launched in open beta in May and others integrated into the upcoming Unity 7, scheduled for Q1 2027. While AI tools will be a core component of Unity 7, their use remains optional for developers. The company’s revenue growth has been partly attributed to the success of Unity Vector AI, reflecting its broader push to integrate AI across its ecosystem.
