Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii announced he created a new text-based police interrogation game using AI tools in approximately 30 minutes. He shared the game on X/Twitter, describing the rapid development process and advising players not to use the boost button. Horii emphasized that AI now allows individuals to produce a functional game independently, even without traditional skills like drawing or programming.

The game centers on questioning a 72-year-old suspect, former locksmith Komiya, about a pawnshop safe break-in. Players must extract statements before a lawyer arrives at 11pm, using evidence to challenge the suspect’s lies. The suspect’s agitation level affects how easily he can be persuaded, with higher resistance leading to silence if it reaches 100.

Horii highlighted the contrast with his 1983 work, The Portopia Serial Murder Case, which he developed entirely alone including story, art, and programming. He noted that AI tools now simplify solo game creation, reducing the need for technical expertise or artistic ability.

Horii has prior experience with AI in games, including Square Enix’s partnership with Google to introduce a Gemini-powered chatbot in Dragon Quest X earlier this year. He also discussed his involvement in Dragon Quest 12 and the upcoming Next: The Portopia Serial Murder Case, slated for 2027.
