Key points
·
Few professions are as exacting as the practice of law.
·
A team reviewing a contract or building a case works inside strictly privileged information, firm-specific playbooks, and a body of law that changes constantly.
·
The work thrives on nuanced, professional judgment — and the systems supporting it inherit real obligations: ethical walls that cannot be crossed, matter permissions that cannot be flattened, and a duty of confidentiality that does not bend for convenience.
·
General-purpose AI, however capable, does not meet that standard on its own.

Google Cloud introduced Gemini Enterprise for Legal, a new industry-specific solution designed to meet the stringent requirements of legal practice. The platform combines purpose-built skills, secure connections to existing legal systems, and agentic workflows that execute tasks rather than just suggest them. Governance is embedded throughout, ensuring compliance with ethical walls, matter permissions, and confidentiality obligations. The system is built to integrate with firms' existing tools and playbooks rather than replace them.

Legal teams can automate high-volume, precision-critical workflows such as regulatory horizon scanning, DSAR responses, and contract review. Skills packages, developed with industry leaders, enforce firms' citation rules, playbooks, and house styles while allowing institutional knowledge to be operationalized. Secure connectors link to document management systems, case repositories, and research services, inheriting existing permissions and access controls to maintain data integrity and security.

The platform includes pre-built agents for legal research, regulatory screening, and contract drafting, which deploy out of the box with centralized governance. An open partner ecosystem, including firms like Accenture, Deloitte, and KPMG, enables customization and scaling without vendor lock-in. A governed control plane provides a single dashboard for legal IT and risk teams, enforcing security policies, maintaining private data isolation, and ensuring traceable citations for every output.

Gemini Enterprise for Legal connects directly to core legal systems such as Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, iManage, NetDocuments, DocuSign, and Everlaw. Access is bound by existing role-based controls and document-level permissions, ensuring that sensitive data remains governed and confidential. The platform aims to shift AI from passive querying to agentic execution, reducing manual toil while maintaining compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
