Google has unveiled a new AI agent named Gemini, positioned as a universal assistant for small and midsize businesses (SMBs) to streamline operations and enhance customer experiences. The tool is designed to function as a personal assistant and team member, handling tasks such as answering questions, managing knowledge work, creating media, and writing code. It operates across familiar interfaces like Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and Slack, and adapts to roles such as project manager or bookkeeper.

Gemini connects to widely used SMB tools including Asana, Box, Dropbox, GitHub, Salesforce, Shopify, and Slack, leveraging business data and work history to improve performance over time. The agent selects the most suitable AI model for each task, balancing accuracy and cost efficiency by orchestrating across Google’s Gemini family and other leading models. This model choice ensures context and skills remain consistent even as underlying models evolve.

The agent is accessible across web, mobile, and desktop platforms, including Android, iOS, Mac, and Windows, and continues to function in the cloud even when devices are offline. Google has implemented cost controls such as multi-model orchestration, smart routing, and real-time spend caps in the Cloud Billing Console to help SMBs manage expenses while using Gemini.

Gemini is currently in early access with select SMB customers and will soon be available to all users. The announcement follows reports of SMBs scaling their use of Google Cloud’s AI tools by more than fivefold in the past year, reflecting growing adoption of AI-driven solutions in lean business environments.
