Kuehne+Nagel and Google Cloud have announced a partnership to reduce air freight emissions by using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for Google Cloud’s infrastructure shipments beginning in 2026. The agreement covers up to 5.2 million litres of SAF, which will replace conventional jet fuel and lower emissions by up to 12,600 tonnes of CO₂e. This initiative aligns with both companies’ sustainability goals and serves as a pilot for future collaborations in sustainable logistics.

SAF is produced from renewable waste materials such as used cooking oil and tallow, offering an approximately 80% reduction in lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil-based jet fuel. Kuehne+Nagel’s SAF certification programme enables customers to reduce their scope 3 emissions while meeting strict sustainability standards. The programme simplifies the process for global customers and supports the scaling of SAF demand, contributing to lower-emission air freight operations.

Google Cloud’s Senior Director of Logistics, Brian Stewart, highlighted the agreement’s role in advancing SAF adoption and supporting the transition to lower-emission air freight. He noted that the collaboration reinforces Google Cloud’s broader sustainability objectives within its logistics value chain. The partnership underscores the importance of sustainability as a core business priority and a foundation for strong industry collaborations.
