Key points
·
ADK supports Python, Go, TypeScript, Java, and Kotlin with unified protocols for interoperability across languages and frameworks.
·
ADK for Go compiles to a 2 MiB static image, enabling high-concurrency workloads with minimal overhead on Cloud Run and GKE.
·
ADK for Kotlin uses KSP to enforce build-time safety, failing builds for unsupported types or invalid parameters before runtime.

Google’s Agent Development Kit (ADK) introduces support for five languages—Python, Go, TypeScript, Java, and Kotlin—each optimized for its runtime while sharing a unified architecture. The kit includes a Model Context Protocol client in every language, allowing custom tools to be called immediately across all runtimes. Multi-agent systems can communicate via the Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol, enabling interoperability between agents written in different languages or frameworks.

ADK for Python serves as the reference implementation, offering broad Google Cloud integrations and model adapters, alongside evaluation tools for continuous integration. The Python version supports tools defined as plain functions, with ADK automatically generating schemas and declarations at startup. Go, optimized for production, uses generics and static typing for compile-time verification, reducing runtime overhead and enabling high-concurrency workloads.

ADK for TypeScript leverages Zod for schema validation, ensuring type safety and IDE support, while also supporting the ADK 2.0 Graph Workflow engine and browser deployment via WebMCP. Java integrates with Maven, Gradle, and Spring Boot, using reactive streaming through RxJava for event handling. Kotlin enforces build-time safety with KSP, generating tool schemas at compile time to prevent runtime errors.

The ADK simplifies agent development by providing scaffolding commands for project generation, deployment configurations for Cloud Run, GKE, or Gemini Enterprise Agent Runtime, and prebuilt skills for coding agents like Antigravity or Claude Code. Developers can define tools in each language and observe how their design aligns with the runtime’s strengths, from Python’s rapid prototyping to Go’s production efficiency.
