France-based Exide Technologies has introduced Solition Powerflex, a modular battery energy storage system (BESS) tailored for commercial and industrial applications. The system integrates a 261 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a 125 kW bidirectional power conversion system (PCS) housed in an outdoor-rated IP55 cabinet. Designed for scalability, up to 15 cabinets can be connected in parallel for grid-connected setups, enabling a maximum capacity of 3.915 MWh and power output of 1.875 MW. For off-grid deployments, the system supports up to five cabinets.

Each cabinet contains five battery packs, each rated at 52.25 kWh, using 314 Ah LFP cells. The system supports charging and discharging rates of up to 0.5C and operates at an AC voltage of 400 V with a frequency of 50 Hz or 60 Hz. Exide states the system achieves a nominal round-trip efficiency of 86%, including auxiliary power consumption. The cabinet measures 1,000 mm × 1,420 mm × 2,250 mm, weighs approximately 2,720 kg, and occupies a footprint of around 1.42 m².

The outdoor cabinet is rated IP55 and designed to function in ambient temperatures from -20°C to 50°C, with power derating above 45°C. Thermal management is handled by a dual-loop liquid cooling and heating system, featuring separate circuits for the battery and PCS, rated at 5 kW and 3 kW respectively. The cabinet integrates a battery management system, energy management system, PCS, thermal management, and fire protection equipment.

Safety features include automatic aerosol fire suppression, emergency shutdown, audible and visual alarms, explosion relief devices, and a dedicated external firefighting interface. The system incorporates Exide’s European-developed Storage Control System (SCS), enabling integration with on-site generation, grid operators, and energy markets. Supported applications include peak shaving, self-consumption optimization, spot-market trading, and ancillary services.
