Google announced new flexible usage limits for Gemini Notebook, designed to provide users with greater control over their workflows. The changes allow users to continue accessing all existing features while offering more flexibility in how they allocate their compute resources. Limits now refresh every five hours, enabling uninterrupted work throughout the day rather than waiting for a daily reset. This adjustment aims to better align usage with actual task demands and user priorities.

The updated system calculates overall usage limits based on factors such as prompt complexity, chat length, number of sources, and the features employed. Users will receive real-time tracking of their usage within the notebook interface. If a task exceeds the current limit, the system will suggest alternative outputs that fit within the remaining compute budget, ensuring continuity in workflow.

For tasks that surpass the limit, users can defer the generation of outputs like Video Overviews or Slide Decks until later. The system will automatically generate these deferred outputs once the limit resets, and users can opt to receive notifications when they are ready. This feature helps maintain productivity without interrupting active work sessions.

The updates will roll out to consumer accounts on both web and mobile platforms beginning September 2. Users are encouraged to review the new usage tracking and management tools to optimize their experience with Gemini Notebook.
