The useful question is what changes for users, developers or buyers, and whether the announcement stays industry context or becomes something people can actually use.
Hyundai Motor’s 27-year partnership with FIFA culminated at the 2026 World Cup with robotics demonstrations, including Boston Dynamics’ humanoid robot Atlas delivering the match ball during a halftime show. The activation, viewed by millions, highlighted Hyundai’s expanding role beyond automotive sponsorship into immersive fan experiences. Behind-the-scenes content featuring Atlas generated over 16 million views on YouTube, underscoring the company’s growing focus on robotics and future mobility solutions.
The company deployed the largest official vehicle fleet in FIFA World Cup history, supplying 994 passenger vehicles and 506 buses across the tournament’s host nations. This included a record number of electrified vehicles, continuing Hyundai’s tradition of using World Cup platforms to showcase mobility innovations such as hydrogen fuel cells and battery electric models.
Fan engagement initiatives like the Goodwill Ball Road Tour and Goal of the Tournament program have evolved since 2002, now incorporating global children’s artwork and interactive experiences. Hyundai also collaborated with the FIFA Museum to present Legacies of Champions, an exhibition in New York featuring robotics alongside football history, demonstrating the company’s shift from sponsorship to experiential storytelling.
Hyundai extended its FIFA partnership through 2030, emphasizing sustainability and community through campaigns like Next Starts Now and School of Football. The latter featured Atlas mastering football skills using advanced robotics, culminating in a viral demonstration of the ‘Ghost Rabona’ during the tournament, reflecting Hyundai’s vision for human-centered innovation in mobility.
