Indigo Surpasses 2 Million Metric Tons of Verified Soil Carbon Impact with Fifth Credit Issuance

Indigo Carbon announced the issuance of its fifth U.S. carbon crop, delivering 1.1 million independently verified carbon credits through the Climate Action Reserve. This brings the company’s total impact to over 2 million metric tons of carbon removals and reductions across U.S. croplands, reinforcing soil carbon as a scalable climate solution. The credits were issued under a protocol approved by the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM), aligning with the Core Carbon Principles for high-integrity credits.

The program has enrolled more than 8 million acres across 28 states since 2018, sequestering and abating 2.1 million metric tons of CO₂e. Beyond emissions reductions, the initiative enhances soil fertility, improves water retention, and strengthens crop resilience. Indigo remains the only registry-issued agricultural soil carbon credit program achieving repeated megaton-scale impact, demonstrating measurable benefits for farmers and the environment.

Indigo’s platform upgrades, including remote-sensing algorithms and a redesigned buyer data portal with an AI chatbot, streamline enrollment and verification processes. The company’s 12-year agreement with Microsoft, covering 2.85 million soil carbon removal credits, highlights growing corporate demand for high-integrity agricultural climate solutions. Farmers have earned tens of millions of dollars through the program, supporting sustainable practices and new revenue streams.

The Carbon by Indigo program, operated by Indigo Carbon PBC, operates as a public benefit corporation and subsidiary of Indigo Ag. With agricultural soils capable of mitigating up to four gigatons of CO₂e annually, the initiative connects farmers to sustainable carbon programs while enabling businesses to invest in verified climate solutions. The program’s transparency and scientific rigor position it as a leader in regenerative agriculture.
