Kraken Cyprus was among seven companies honored at the 14th Invest Cyprus International Investment Awards, an event held under the auspices of Cyprus’ President Nikos Christodoulides. The ceremony, organized by Invest Cyprus and hosted by GOLD Magazine, recognized businesses that have chosen Cyprus as a base for long-term investment. Kraken’s Derivatives Director Alexia Theodorou accepted the award on behalf of the company, which established operations in Cyprus in 2025. The recognition underscores Cyprus’s regulatory strength and its role as a gateway to European financial markets.

The award reflects Kraken’s decision to expand into Cyprus, where it operates Payward Europe Digital Solutions (CY) Limited, holding a MiFID II license regulated by CySEC. Acquired in February 2025, the license enables Kraken to offer regulated derivatives products to professional traders across the EEA. This regulatory approval has already enabled practical changes, such as allowing clients to use crypto collateral—including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and stablecoins—for derivatives trading on Kraken Pro starting November 3, 2025.

Alexia Theodorou, speaking after the ceremony, highlighted the Cypriot government’s institutional support and professional engagement during Kraken’s establishment process. She noted that the authorities’ responsiveness reinforced the company’s confidence in its investment decision. Theodorou also emphasized Kraken Cyprus’s plans to deepen its local market presence and build long-term operations on the island, aligning with the broader growth strategy of its parent company, Payward.

Founded in 2011, Kraken has expanded into a full-spectrum financial services provider serving millions of clients across over 190 countries. Its European operations in Cyprus are part of this growth, supported by the MiFID II license and the Invest Cyprus recognition. The awards ceremony, now in its 14th year, is organized by Invest Cyprus with sponsorship from Eurobank, ECOMMBX, Cyta Business, and the Lanitis Group.
