Kuehne+Nagel and CATL partner to advance battery logistics and fleet electrification
Kuehne+Nagel and CATL will collaborate on battery logistics, fleet electrification, and emissions reduction, starting with European transport electrification and a battery-swapping pilot for heavy trucks in China.
Global logistics provider Kuehne+Nagel and battery manufacturer CATL have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a strategic partnership focused on battery logistics, transport electrification, and emissions reduction. The collaboration will initially prioritize practical initiatives such as electrifying CATL’s transport flows in Europe and launching a battery-swapping pilot for heavy-duty trucks in China, expected to begin this year.
The partnership also includes joint efforts in battery recycling, aftersales support, and the development of energy storage and charging solutions for logistics sites. These activities align with both companies’ goals to reduce Scope 3 emissions across their logistics and transportation value chains, supporting broader sustainability targets.
CATL and Kuehne+Nagel emphasized the importance of battery-electric vehicles in decarbonizing road freight, highlighting the need for high-performing and operationally viable solutions. By leveraging CATL’s battery expertise and Kuehne+Nagel’s logistics capabilities, the partnership aims to advance initiatives that reduce emissions for both companies and their customers.
The agreement coincides with rising demand for electric vehicles and energy storage solutions, with electric truck battery demand increasing by more than 75% in 2024. CATL, a global leader in new energy technologies, has maintained the top position in EV battery consumption for nine consecutive years and leads in global energy storage battery shipments for five straight years.
