The recognition underscores the platform’s ability to support organizations in building, deploying, and operating cloud-native applications at scale while integrating AI workloads. Gartner’s evaluation reflects the growing importance of unified platforms that combine application modernization, AI innovation, operations, and security into a single foundation.

Microsoft’s cloud-native platform integrates services such as Azure App Service for enterprise applications, Azure Container Apps for cloud-native workloads, and Azure Functions for event-driven execution. Azure API Management governs APIs and agent tools, while Microsoft Foundry provides AI model management and safety capabilities. GitHub Copilot accelerates development across the lifecycle. The platform enables developers to deploy containers directly to production and expose business logic via the Model Context Protocol, with over 1,400 connectors facilitating enterprise system integration.

The platform supports AI transformation by allowing organizations to modernize existing applications incrementally, such as moving legacy Windows and .NET applications to fully managed services without rewrites. Azure provides shared identity, networking, and security controls across the application estate, with Azure API Management enforcing policies for AI services and Azure Container Apps Sandboxes offering hardware-level isolation for agent-generated code. Azure Monitor and Application Insights deliver end-to-end observability, while Azure SRE Agent supports incident investigation and remediation. Organizations like Planet DDS, Commerzbank, and Levi Strauss & Co. use the platform to run critical applications and AI workloads in production, demonstrating its role in bridging legacy systems and AI-driven innovation.
