The company integrates information from NASA and other agencies to assess environmental conditions at specific lunar sites, aiding mission planning for mining and scientific research. By combining data from various sensors, including historical images and satellite captures, the firm creates detailed terrain models to guide landing and mining strategies.
NASA’s Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) mission in 2009 confirmed the presence of water ice at the Moon’s South Pole by analyzing the debris plume from an intentional impact. This discovery has informed subsequent efforts to map and utilize lunar water resources. Lunar Station is building on these findings to support commercial missions, including identifying potential landing sites and rover paths for mining operations.
The company’s MoonHacker program uses advanced algorithms to analyze NASA’s Planetary Data System, identifying indicators of shallow lunar water deposits. This tool also helps clients plan communications strategies, particularly in regions where direct Earth contact is obstructed, such as polar areas or the Moon’s far side. Digital twin simulations assess radiation exposure for rovers and satellites, determining necessary protective measures for mission success.
These initiatives align with NASA’s Technology Transfer program, which aims to apply space-based solutions to terrestrial challenges.
