NVIDIA AI Supercomputer Comes Online at Naval Postgraduate School

NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang formally commissioned the DGX GB300 system at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, California, marking the activation of one of the most advanced AI platforms for military graduate education. The system, integrated with NVIDIA Mission Control software, provides over 1,500 resident students and 600 faculty with on-premises access to large-scale AI computing for model training and inference. Applications include weather prediction, cybersecurity, and disaster response planning, supporting NPS’s applied research mission.
The commissioning occurred during NPS’s three-day Converge @ NPS event and strengthens an ongoing collaboration between NPS and NVIDIA to develop AI technologies for education and real-world applications. The system is housed within the NVIDIA AI Technology Center on the Monterey campus, which serves as a dedicated hub for AI research and graduate instruction. Admiral Samuel Paparo, commander of U.S. Pacific Command, emphasized the importance of modernizing education to include advanced computing capabilities for future military leaders.
NPS educates active-duty officers and international partners across disciplines such as space operations and ocean science, with programs centered on applied research addressing real-world challenges. Huang highlighted the practical utility of AI tools, noting that modern systems are designed to be accessible even to non-experts. The DGX GB300 enables in-house training of foundation models, high-fidelity simulations, and the development of AI tools with immediate applicability to military and scientific domains.
NVIDIA expanded the collaboration through its Deep Learning Institute, equipping NPS faculty with instructor toolkits to integrate AI into graduate curricula. The partnership with MITRE leverages NVIDIA Omniverse libraries to create high-fidelity digital twin environments for simulating navigation and decision-making under uncertainty. Hardware partners DDN, VAST, and Vertiv provided critical infrastructure, including data management, unified data platforms, and cooling and power systems, enabling the DGX GB300 to operate at full capacity on campus.
