NVIDIA Joins NSF State and Regional AI Hubs Program to Expand AI Research and Education Across the US
NVIDIA will join the NSF’s State and Regional AI Infrastructure Hubs program to expand AI research and education access across U.S. institutions through shared computing, software, and training resources.
NVIDIA will participate in the U.S. National Science Foundation’s State and Regional Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Hubs program, launching today to provide colleges and universities with advanced AI computing, data, software, and expertise. The initiative supports state and multistate consortia working with private industry, philanthropies, and governments to strengthen the national AI ecosystem. Regional hubs will pool resources, share computing infrastructure, and accelerate scientific discovery while preparing students for AI-driven careers. Flexible models, including on-premises systems, cloud computing, or hybrid approaches, will allow consortia to tailor resources to local needs and economic priorities.
The program builds on a 2020 partnership between NVIDIA, cofounder Chris Malachowsky, and the University of Florida (UF) to transform UF into the nation’s first AI university. Since then, UF has grown to over 300 AI-focused faculty and secured more than $511 million in AI research awards. NVIDIA has also contributed to the NSF-led National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) pilot, providing computing access and expertise to university research teams nationwide. These efforts aim to bridge the gap between AI infrastructure and practical scientific and educational applications.
A key focus of the hubs is workforce development, pairing AI infrastructure with clear learning pathways to build skills for students, faculty, and professionals. Programs will include degree tracks, certificates, and stackable credentials in fields such as healthcare, energy, manufacturing, and cybersecurity. NVIDIA will provide training resources, educator support, and tools to help institutions transition from awareness to hands-on AI capability. The goal is to create repeatable, openly available programs that prepare learners to use AI systems and data workflows responsibly.
The hubs are designed to align regional AI resources with local economic and research priorities, fostering collaboration among universities, community colleges, employers, and governments. Policymakers and leaders can use the program to connect infrastructure with workforce and economic development strategies, translating AI leadership into scientific progress, new businesses, and high-quality jobs. Sustained public-private partnerships will be essential to ensure broad access and effective use of advanced AI resources across the country.
