Building advertising for the way people use AI
OpenAI introduces a visual ad format in ChatGPT to help users explore products while expanding measurement tools and brand suitability partnerships for advertisers.
OpenAI is launching a new visual ad format within ChatGPT to help users visualize how products and services could fit into their lives. The format uses images to showcase product inspiration, usage, or experiences, enabling users to discover brands and make informed purchase decisions. Ads will be clearly labeled and remain separate from generated images, ensuring transparency. Testing begins this month in the US with a select group of advertisers, focusing initially on image generation scenarios.
The company is expanding measurement tools and partnerships to help advertisers assess the impact of ChatGPT Ads. Integrations with partners like Hightouch, Tealium, and LiveRamp allow advertisers to send conversion data from their existing systems. Leading attribution partners, including AppsFlyer, Triple Whale, and Adjust, now support Conversions API, reporting, and click attribution for ChatGPT Ads.
OpenAI is also enhancing brand suitability efforts to ensure ads appear in appropriate contexts. Placement guardrails prevent ads from appearing in sensitive or unsuitable conversations, supported by automated reviews, human oversight, and ongoing monitoring. Advertisers can now use Negative Phrases to align with their specific brand policies, and pilots with DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Science aim to provide independent assessments of brand safety standards.
Early partner findings highlight the performance of ChatGPT Ads. DV Rockerbox reported a 15.3% lower cost per acquisition for WeightWatchers compared to its paid-search benchmark. WorkMagic observed a statistically significant lift for wellness brand Dose, with 67% of incremental purchases from new customers. Triple Whale found that 93% of visitors from ChatGPT Ads for Portland Leather were new.
