Atlassian and OpenAI are expanding their existing partnership to integrate OpenAI’s latest frontier models, including GPT‑6 Astra and the GPT‑5.6 series, into Atlassian’s platform and Rovo, a tool combining OpenAI intelligence with Atlassian’s Teamwork Graph. This integration aims to provide AI with a comprehensive understanding of enterprise workflows by connecting people, projects, documents, and decisions. The goal is to make AI agents a seamless part of daily work, enabling teams to plan, build, and deliver projects more efficiently.

The collaboration builds on a 2023 agreement and includes broader access to OpenAI’s models for Atlassian’s products. Over 3,000 Atlassian developers already use Codex in terminals, IDEs, and code review workflows, with plugins powered by the Teamwork Graph providing access to relevant work items and documentation. This setup helps developers write, test, and ship software by surfacing critical context directly within their workflows.

Under the new agreement, OpenAI’s frontier models will power AI agents across Atlassian’s platform, including Rovo, which can now assess project readiness by analyzing Jira tickets, Confluence documents, and discussions. For example, a product manager can ask Rovo whether a team is on track, and the tool will identify blockers, missed milestones, and pending decisions, then provide a clear assessment and recommended actions. This reduces the time teams spend gathering information and accelerates progress.

The partnership extends beyond Atlassian’s core products through CLI plugins for ChatGPT and Codex, allowing customers to connect AI tools to their existing workflows with appropriate permissions. Atlassian’s recent plugin extension brings Jira work items, Confluence content, and people directly into AI prompts, while pinned Atlassian Home surfaces assigned work and relevant updates. Future integrations with Jira may enable AI agents to assign tasks, track progress, and capture decisions, with Atlassian’s DX platform measuring AI’s impact on development speed and developer experience.
