The useful question is what changes for users, developers or buyers, and whether the announcement stays industry context or becomes something people can actually use.
Paramount and Gameplay Group International have released Avatar Legends™: The Fighting Game, a new 1v1 fighting game set in the worlds of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. Developed in collaboration with Avatar Studios, the game features fast-paced combat with elemental bending mechanics tied to traditional martial arts. Players can choose from fan-favorite characters, each with unique abilities and tactical counters, while engaging in dynamic one-on-one battles. The title includes an original Story Mode and robust online play, offering both accessibility for newcomers and depth for fighting game veterans.
Victor Lugo, Founder & CCO of Gameplay Group International, emphasized the team’s commitment to delivering an experience true to the Avatar universe. He noted the high expectations for the game and the focus on responsiveness, depth, and competitive play. The launch coincides with San Diego Comic-Con, where attendees can try the game through exclusive activations celebrating the franchise. The convention serves as a major platform for showcasing the game’s features and future developments within the Avatar universe.
The game is available now on PlayStation 5, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch, with full cross-play support enabling players on different platforms to compete. A physical edition published by PM Studios is planned for later this year, alongside a Nintendo Switch 2 version. Both Standard and Deluxe Editions will be offered for collectors and fans seeking additional content.
The launch marks a significant expansion for the Avatar franchise, introducing a new interactive experience that blends the series’ signature action with fighting game mechanics. By leveraging the elemental bending system and beloved characters, the game aims to attract both longtime fans and newcomers to the genre. The inclusion of cross-play and multiple platform options ensures broad accessibility for players across different devices.
