An ambitious fanmade expansion for Baldur's Gate 3 is out after almost two years in development

A fan-made expansion for Baldur’s Gate 3, titled *Baldur’s Gate 3: Act Two Expansion*, has been released after nearly two years of development by modder SquallyDaBeanz. The mod introduces a new region called The Chionthar Wilds, designed to offer a fresh setting similar in scope to the Act 1 Wilderness. Players can access the new area after completing the Shadow-Cursed Lands or via a quickstart option that skips ahead with customizable equipment and hirelings.

The expansion adds over 30 new encounters featuring new creatures, more than 70 new collectible items, and additional quests, NPCs, and cutscenes. Experience points in the new zones are artificially reduced to prevent the content from unbalancing Act 3 difficulty during a full playthrough. The mod does not include voice acting for new characters and omits some advanced features like speaking with the dead or animals.

While choices made in The Chionthar Wilds do not carry over into Act 3, the expansion aims to provide a classic CRPG-style experience with traditional mechanics. Players are advised to prepare for a text-heavy adventure, as the mod does not fully integrate with Baldur’s Gate 3’s more complex systems. The release follows the game’s popularity and the active modding community’s efforts to expand its content.
