I have added completely realistic Uber driving to Grand Theft Auto 5
A modder transformed Grand Theft Auto V into a realistic Uber experience, complete with a work phone and delivery routes, though chaotic GTA physics disrupted the simulation.
A PC Gamer editor installed the Goober & Goober Eats – Realistic Rideshare & Food Delivery mod for Grand Theft Auto V, which introduces a functional Uber-like system into the game. The mod adds a separate work phone interface, allowing players to accept delivery requests and navigate to pickup and drop-off locations marked on the map. The system is designed to simulate gig economy labor within the game’s open-world environment.
The modder attempted to complete a delivery in San Andreas’ northern region, but encountered persistent interruptions caused by the game’s teleportation mechanics. Every 50 seconds, the player was forcibly relocated to random map locations, including between pylons at a cable car station, preventing progress. Despite these disruptions, the modder managed to manually teleport to the destination and complete the order.
Financial compensation for completing deliveries was minimal; the modder earned approximately $100 for the effort, though the session was abruptly terminated by an unrelated in-game event. A group of furries at the airport shot the player’s bodyguard, forcing an immediate end to the Uber simulation. The mod’s integration with GTA V’s existing systems highlights both its technical achievement and the limitations imposed by the game’s design.
The modder acknowledged the mod’s temporary suspension of Los Santos Customs services, which will return in the future. This reflects the broader scope of the modding project, which aims to either refine GTA V into a near-realistic simulation or push the game’s systems to their breaking point. The experiment underscores the creative potential and unpredictability of game modding.
