The best Total War game is getting a remaster with 50 newly playable factions, modern visuals, and a full Japanese voiceover

Creative Assembly announced a remaster of Total War: Shogun 2, titled Total War: Shogun 2 - Complete Edition, scheduled for release on October 13. The original game, launched in 2011, will receive updated visuals and controls alongside all three campaigns: Shogun 2, Rise of the Samurai, and Fall of the Samurai. Existing owners of Shogun 2 will receive legacy DLC from the original game at no additional cost, ensuring continuity for current players.

The remaster introduces over 50 newly playable minor factions, expanding the roster beyond previously available options. This addition includes factions that were previously sold as separate DLC, integrating them into the base game for broader accessibility. The update also features a full Japanese voiceover, enhancing immersion for players who prefer the original language track.

Owners of the original Shogun 2 will receive a 75% time-limited loyalty discount on the new Complete Edition, though the remaster is not free. The discount applies to encourage existing players to upgrade while still providing value. The announcement follows recent Total War releases, including Lords of the End Times for Warhammer and upcoming Medieval III.

The remaster may revive multiplayer features such as campaign invasions, where other players can join as enemy armies, and Avatar Conquest mode. These modes were popular in the original but have seen limited use in recent years due to player base declines. The update aims to modernize the game while preserving its core mechanics and historical depth.
