The next retro games coming to Steam are a pair of extremely 1990s run-and-gunners where Spanish Goku fights mutants

Spanish developer Gaelco produced a series of arcade titles in the 1990s, including lesser-known platformers like Thunder Hoop and its sequel TH Strikes Back. These games, originally released in 1992 and 1994 respectively, have remained obscure outside Spain despite their cult appeal. QUByte Interactive, known for reviving retro titles, will bring both games to Steam as part of a collection later this year.

Thunder Hoop follows a protagonist named Thunder Hoop, a hand-blasting hero battling mutants unleashed by the villain Dr Genbreak across a cityscape. The original game includes sewer and underwater levels, while the sequel shifts to a more mature, run-and-gun style with latex-clad enemies and a Super Saiyan-style sequence. Both titles feature modern enhancements such as save states, a rewind function, and customizable CRT-style screen filters.

TH Strikes Back introduces local co-op gameplay, allowing two players to team up, while the first Thunder Hoop offers a turn-based multiplayer mode. The collection aims to preserve the arcade experience while adding accessibility features for contemporary players. Gaelco’s arcade output, including World Rally, has seen sporadic recognition, but this release marks a broader effort to reintroduce its catalog.

The Thunder Hoop Collection will launch on Steam on October 8, providing a curated retro experience with updated controls and visual options. The announcement follows a trend of retro specialists restoring obscure arcade games for digital platforms, expanding their reach beyond regional nostalgia.
