Introducing No Man’s Sky: Cosmos update, live on PS5 today
PlayStation releases the free Cosmos update for No Man’s Sky, transforming space exploration with new features like asteroid belts, space stations, and alliances on PS5 today.
The Cosmos update arrives a decade after No Man’s Sky’s launch, introducing a major overhaul to the game’s space systems. Existing PlayStation players can download it at no cost. The update reimagines space as a dynamic environment filled with asteroid belts, derelict ships, outposts, and missions. Players can now scan solar systems to reveal points of interest, expanding exploration and discovery.
Ownership expands beyond planets to include space stations and star bases. Players may purchase and customize their own system’s space station, decorating it internally and externally. Free-floating modular bases can be built anywhere in space, serving as trading hubs, restaurants, or military outposts. The update also introduces alliances, allowing groups to collaborate and compete on leaderboards.
New mechanics include a physics gravity gun for salvaging wrecks, with risks of meltdown if overused. Space hulks can be stripped for resources, while asteroid belts offer valuable crystals. Some asteroids are large enough to land on or build bases. Outposts provide trading opportunities with alien lifeforms but may require clearing biological hazards before use.
The anniversary expedition ties milestone achievements to past updates, offering a retrospective journey through the game’s history. Each milestone reflects features introduced in updates over the last decade, accompanied by developer logs. The update underscores the developers’ ongoing commitment to the community through iterative improvements.
