Frogwares’ The Sinking City 2 shifts the series from open-world detective work to semi-open survival horror, emphasizing combat and exploration while retaining Lovecraftian themes. The standalone story follows Arkham after a flood forces evacuation, leaving survivors and Eldritch entities behind. Investigation remains optional, offering rewards for players who explore deeper mysteries. The game launched today on PlayStation 5, marking a significant evolution in tone and gameplay mechanics.
The Slither, one of the most common enemies, are worm-like parasites that control human corpses through a hive mind linked to Yog-Sothoth. Their movements appear unnatural, with dislocated joints and erratic gestures as the colony learns to operate its host. Designers emphasized gradual infestation stages, where the creatures’ behavior and appearance change as they grow stronger. Despite their fragility, Slither remain dangerous due to their numbers and unsettling control over corpses.
The Stygian Harvesters use long human arms to navigate tight spaces and set ambushes in darkness, dodging attacks and retreating when threatened. Their design prioritizes stealth and unpredictability, turning the environment into a tool for surprise attacks. The Acheronian Juggernaut returns from the original game, now reworked for combat with redesigned attacks and behavior suited for challenging encounters. Its grotesque, fused-body design remains intact, retaining its role as a formidable, slow-moving threat.
The Lethian Revenant, a transformed human, splits its head vertically to spit corrosive fluid at a distance while avoiding direct combat. Its redesign includes exposed muscle, torn skin, and oozing wounds for a more visceral appearance. Deep One Raiders, humanoid fish-like creatures, combine immense strength with inhuman movement, including sudden sprints and claw attacks. The game’s release follows a challenging development period for Frogwares amid ongoing conflict in Ukraine, underscoring the team’s perseverance in delivering the title to players.
