Amazon's New 8-Episode Action Spinoff Dethrones Reacher to Become No. 1 Streaming Series
Amazon’s new eight-episode spinoff Neagley has overtaken Reacher to become the streamer’s top series globally, with a second season already confirmed.
Prime Video’s action spinoff Neagley, featuring Maria Sten as Frances Neagley, premiered on August 15 and immediately claimed the No. 1 streaming spot across the U.S., U.K., and Europe. The eight-episode series dropped all at once, a strategy that propelled it past the long-running Reacher, which had held the top position for multiple seasons. Amazon MGM Studios reported Neagley’s rapid rise to the top of streaming charts within weeks of its debut.
Neagley follows Frances Neagley, a Chicago private investigator and former protégé of Jack Reacher in the Army’s 110th Special Investigations Unit. The series explores her pursuit of justice after a friend’s suspicious death, leading her into a dangerous conspiracy. Unlike Reacher, Neagley is not a direct adaptation of Lee Child’s novels but expands the franchise’s universe with original storytelling.
The spinoff stars Maria Sten, Greyston Holt, Matthew Del Negro, Adeline Rudolph, Damon Herriman, and Joel Keller. Two weeks after its release, Amazon MGM confirmed a second season is in development, citing strong audience reception and Sten’s performance as key drivers. The announcement emphasized the series’ standalone appeal and its thrilling narrative built by showrunners Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton.
Amazon MGM Studios did not provide a release date for Neagley season 2 but indicated it would likely follow Reacher season 5, expected in 2027, with Neagley’s second season arriving around 2028. The studio’s head of global television, Peter Friedlander, praised Sten’s performance and the series’ compelling world, signaling long-term commitment to the franchise.
