Embark Studios cites cheating concerns as a challenge despite existing anti-cheat efforts during the free-to-play weekend.

Embark Studios announced that *Arc Raiders* will transition to free-to-play for a limited time starting Oct. 8 at 5 a.m. ET, running until Oct. 12 at 4 a.m. ET across Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation. The trial coincides with the Frozen Trail update, granting full access to the game’s existing content and new features during the four-day window. Players will be able to explore the game without restrictions, though the free-to-play period is temporary and does not represent a permanent change to the game’s monetization model.

The Frozen Trail update, launching on Oct. 8, introduces a new map, Battle Pass, a frigate patrol vessel, additional enemies and challenges, weapon mods, a camera gadget, and weapon skins. Embark Studios has framed the update as a way to refresh the game’s experience and attract both returning and new players during the free-to-play weekend. The update also includes a PvE matchmaking beta, offering a more relaxed alternative to the game’s standard modes.

Arc Raiders remains playable despite a decline in concurrent player numbers since its launch, and Embark Studios hopes the free-to-play weekend will revitalize interest. The company has acknowledged ongoing challenges with cheating, which has persisted despite efforts to mitigate it. The free-to-play trial could potentially exacerbate the issue by increasing the number of players, though no additional anti-cheat measures are planned for the Frozen Trail update.

The game is available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC via Steam, and Xbox Series X. Embark Studios has not indicated whether the free-to-play model will continue beyond the trial period, leaving players to experience the update and new content during the limited-time offer.
