Diablo 4’s Witcher Collab Could Literally Only Work for One Class, Says CDPR
CD Projekt Red and Blizzard announced a Geralt skin for Diablo 4’s Barbarian class and an Edgerunners crossover for Overwatch in 2027, excluding other classes or Cyberpunk 2077’s main game.
At BlizzCon, CD Projekt Red revealed a Geralt-themed skin for Diablo 4’s Barbarian class as part of a collaboration with Blizzard, rather than featuring the character directly. The decision stemmed from creative discussions between both studios, with CD Projekt Red’s level design lead Miles Tost noting the Barbarian’s emphasis on physical prowess and preparation aligned with Geralt’s approach. The skin will be available to those who pre-order The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s Songs of the Past via Battle.net, with the expansion launching in 2027.
The collaboration excludes other Diablo 4 classes like Paladin or Rogue, as developers highlighted the Barbarian’s weapon mastery and minimal magic use as the primary fit for Geralt’s aesthetic. Tost compared the Barbarian’s arsenal system to the Witcher’s need for selecting the right tools, reinforcing the thematic connection. No additional details were provided about potential future collaborations involving other classes.
Separately, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners characters David and Talia will appear in Overwatch next year, with the crossover tied to the upcoming release of Edgerunners 2 on Netflix on October 20. CD Projekt Red’s Amelia Korzycka explained that Edgerunners was prioritized due to fan demand and the timing of its second season, though a future Cyberpunk 2077-specific collaboration was not ruled out.
Blizzard product VP Andrew Guerrero and Korzycka both suggested that the success of the Edgerunners crossover could lead to further collaborations, including potential integrations of Cyberpunk 2077’s main game into Overwatch. For now, the focus remains on Edgerunners, with both studios leaving the door open for expanded crossovers based on player response.
