HBO’s New Green Lantern Series Officially Gets an Important Update
HBO and DC Studios confirm *My Adventures with Green Lantern* will have 10 half-hour episodes, following Jessica Cruz and featuring Green Lantern characters like Kyle Rayner and Kilowog.
DC Studios co-lead Peter Safran confirmed the first season of *My Adventures with Green Lantern* will consist of 10 half-hour episodes, matching the format of *My Adventures with Superman*, its predecessor. Safran described the show’s tone as "tonally similar" to the Superman series, blending traditional comic book action with anime influences. The series will focus on Jessica Cruz, a student at Hal Jordan Memorial High who balances heroism with her personal life, with Auliʻi Cravalho voicing the character.
The Green Lantern spin-off will introduce additional iconic characters beyond Jessica Cruz, including Kyle Rayner and Kilowog, expanding the lore of the DC animated universe. Early footage shown at Annecy suggested the series may draw inspiration from magical girl anime like *Sailor Moon*, diverging from the shōnen-style approach of *My Adventures with Superman*. Production is currently in the animatics and animation review phase, though no release date has been announced.
While *My Adventures with Green Lantern* progresses, the future of its parent series, *My Adventures with Superman*, remains uncertain. Safran indicated the show’s fourth season is "up in the air," and co-showrunner Jake Wyatt revealed plans for a potential fourth season were integrated into season 3’s later episodes. The team is prioritizing the Green Lantern project, delaying further Superman seasons.
The creative team behind *My Adventures with Superman* is leading the Green Lantern spin-off, which may delay new Superman content. Safran and James Gunn encouraged the team to embed plans for a fourth season into season 3, but no renewal has been confirmed. If revived, the Superman series is intended to evolve into a dark detective thriller exploring folklore, violence, and consequences.
