Marvel Studios confirmed at D23 that its X-Men reboot will integrate classic mutants into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the first wave including Cyclops and Storm. The studio has now cast Asa Germann, known for Gen V and Scream 7, to play Angel, one of the original X-Men. Germann was previously considered for Cyclops, a role ultimately given to Kit Connor. The reboot will be directed by Jake Schreier and is scheduled for a May 5, 2028 theatrical release.

Angel, also called Warren Worthington III, is distinguished by large white wings enabling flight and first appeared on screen in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, portrayed by Ben Foster. In that film, his mutation drives the plot around a controversial “mutant cure.” A villainous version of Angel, Archangel, later appeared in X-Men: Apocalypse, played by Ben Hardy. The character’s dual heroic and antagonistic roles add narrative depth to the upcoming reboot.

The X-Men reboot will star Adam Driver as Mister Sinister, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as White Queen Emma Frost, Inde Navarette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, Kit Connor as Cyclops, and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey. Germann’s casting as Angel completes a core ensemble announced so far for the film. Production is underway with Schreier at the helm, marking Marvel’s first major mutant-centric project in the MCU timeline.

Marvel has not confirmed whether Iceman or Beast will appear in the reboot, despite their status as original X-Men alongside Angel, Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm. The studio has only revealed the confirmed cast and characters to date, leaving future inclusions uncertain. The film is positioned as a fresh start for the franchise, integrating mutants into the broader MCU continuity.
