'Spider-Noir' Creator Reveals Season 2 Plans After Prime Video Cancellation

Amazon canceled Spider-Noir after its first season, which premiered on Prime Video on May 27 to critical acclaim. The show’s cancellation came just days before it won five Emmy Awards, the most ever for a single-season canceled series. Creator Oren Uziel discussed the abrupt end to the series, which had planned a second season set in a new location, possibly exploring noir stories in Los Angeles, Europe, or during World War II. The first season was set in 1933 New York, and Uziel expressed regret over not continuing the story’s arc toward the war’s impact.

Uziel reflected on the Emmy Awards ceremony, which occurred shortly after the cancellation, calling it unexpectedly uplifting. The show won in categories including stunt performance, sound editing, title design, special visual effects, and cinematography. He described the night as a celebration of the team’s work rather than a somber event, comparing it to a children’s softball game where the team’s success became infectious.

The creator acknowledged mixed feelings about the show’s closure, noting it was intentionally designed as a self-contained story. Spider-Noir followed a classic noir structure, beginning with a client’s arrival and ending with a case’s resolution, leaving little room for continuation. Despite the closure, Uziel expressed pride in the project and hope to reunite the cast, including Nicolas Cage, for future work, though no immediate plans exist.

Uziel doubted the possibility of a revival, citing legal and logistical complications that could prevent another streamer from picking up the series. While fans and critics have speculated about a reversal or a new home for the show, the creator remains skeptical about such outcomes. The cancellation stands, though another Marvel TV series from Sony may still join Prime Video.
