TCL SunPower has launched the X5, a hybrid energy storage cabinet designed for commercial and industrial applications in Europe. The base unit delivers 50 kW/100 kWh and can be scaled up to 400 kWh by linking up to four units in parallel. The cabinet integrates a 50 kW inverter and is factory-assembled and pre-wired, aiming to cut installation costs by up to 60% compared with on-site systems.

The X5 measures 1.9 meters tall with a 1.37-meter footprint and weighs 1,200 kg. It is rated IP66 for the inverter and IP55 for the cabinet, operating across temperatures from -60°C to 50°C. The system supports on-grid, off-grid, and microgrid operation, with islanding in under 20 milliseconds and black-start capability without grid or PV input.

TCL SunPower positions the X5 as a compact solution for sites unsuitable for custom battery systems but too demanding for residential products. It accepts generator input up to 138 kVA and includes integrated safety features such as three layers of monitoring, fire suppression, gas detection, and arc-fault interruption. The system is managed via TCL’s energy management controller with web or app interfaces.

Steven Zhang, general manager at TCL SunPower Global, called the X5 a first milestone in a broader European C&I storage strategy. Over the next 12 months, the company plans to expand from hybrid storage for small and medium businesses to megawatt-scale solutions. The X5 has already been deployed in Europe, including in Spain, where it upgraded an off-grid solar water-pumping system installed in 2015 into a hybrid system without expanding the solar array.
