Snowflake CoCo: Built to Scale Enterprise AI with Trust
Snowflake launches CoCo Desktop, Cloud Agents, and AI cost governance to scale enterprise AI with existing security and cost controls.
The useful question is what changes for users, developers or buyers, and whether the announcement stays industry context or becomes something people can actually use.
Snowflake announced new CoCo capabilities to address enterprise AI scaling challenges, including governance, cost visibility, and developer workflow integration. CoCo Desktop is now generally available on macOS and Windows, while Cloud Agents bring CoCo functionality to Snowsight without local installation. AI cost governance features provide real-time spending visibility with per-user controls, and Agent Settings allows centralized configuration for teams. CoCo Mobile, in private preview for iOS and Android, extends trusted AI to mobile devices.
AI cost governance is positioned as foundational to CoCo, using existing Snowflake role-based access controls rather than a separate security model. Snowflake reports internal usage reduced cost per prompt by approximately 28% with no quality loss through efficiency improvements like REPL-based tool calling and smarter model routing. Customer data shows average cost per prompt has decreased by about 20% in recent weeks due to these optimizations. The company states it continues investing in token efficiency and faster task completion to scale CoCo without proportional cost increases.
Agent Settings, now in public preview, enables administrators to configure default models and roll out settings across teams using existing governance frameworks. The feature supports role-based configurations, allowing different teams to access tailored setups. CoCo Desktop, generally available for macOS and Windows, provides a native AI development environment with integrated access to local files, repositories, and Snowflake. It eliminates setup overhead by loading the Snowflake catalog, RBAC roles, and governance policies by default, enabling developers to begin work immediately.
Cloud Agents, now generally available in Snowsight, run CoCo sessions in isolated, Snowflake-managed containers with web search, shell command execution, and Python script support by default. The Cortex Agents REST API will soon offer CoCo coding capabilities for custom applications. CoCo Mobile, in private preview, extends this governance model to mobile devices. Skills and plugins sharing, in public preview soon, allows teams to publish, discover, and certify reusable workflows through a governed catalog, reducing institutional knowledge silos and compounding organizational value over time.
