Workday and Snowflake have launched a zero-copy, bidirectional integration that allows Workday’s curated HR objects—such as Worker, Position, and Payroll data—to be accessed directly in Snowflake without replication. The integration preserves Workday’s semantic layer and governance controls, enabling analysts and AI systems to query governed business concepts rather than raw data. This eliminates the need for manual ETL pipelines and reduces compliance exposure by keeping sensitive data under Workday’s governance framework.

The integration supports two access methods: Workday Data Lake, which refreshes data on a scheduled basis for analytics and AI model training, and Workday Live Data Query, which provides near real-time access to current Workday data via SQL connections. Both methods operate within Snowflake’s existing governance and security controls, ensuring consistent access rules across platforms. The bidirectional capability also allows Snowflake tables to be connected to Workday as external tables, enabling joined queries with Workday’s HR and financial records.

The integration is available today for Workday Public Cloud customers on AWS and GCP. Private Cloud customers must upgrade to Public Cloud to access the feature, with support available through Workday account teams. Users can create a zero-copy connector to their Workday tenant and mount the Workday Data Cloud catalog as a database in Snowflake, enabling direct queries without data movement.

A practical application of the integration is demonstrated in sales performance analysis, where Snowflake-hosted data is joined with Workday’s worker records to surface insights in Workday’s discovery boards. Workday agents can then recommend and assign learning modules to employees automatically, closing the loop between analytics and action without manual cross-referencing of systems.
