Gorae, an onchain layer for EV charging, plans to integrate more than 50,000 chargers in South Korea this year, starting with one of the country’s largest charge point operators. The platform uses Sui to settle payments and Walrus to record each charging session as a verifiable onchain transaction. Currently, charging data is fragmented across private systems, creating verification gaps that slow roaming settlements and complicate investor due diligence. Gorae acts as a verification layer on top of existing management systems, enabling independent auditing of charging sessions without requiring new hardware.

Sejin Park, CEO of Gorae, highlighted the lack of transparent, independently verifiable records for EV charging sessions despite millions occurring daily. By leveraging Sui and Walrus, Gorae aims to convert active chargers into digital assets, improving transparency for drivers, operators, and capital markets. The approach seeks to shorten financing timelines, which can currently take months, and lower the cost of capital for operators. Kostas Chalkias of Mysten Labs noted that the initiative demonstrates the practical value of Sui and Walrus for real-world infrastructure without additional hardware investments.

The platform’s C2C (Charger-to-Chain) node technology connects existing chargers to Sui and Walrus without hardware modifications, enabling rapid scaling. Gorae chose Sui and Walrus for their ability to handle fast, atomic settlements, frictionless driver onboarding, and low-cost decentralized storage of detailed session records.

Walrus provides sub-second retrieval and provability for operational data, with approximately 800ms retrieval times for sub-1MB blobs and two-thirds fault tolerance. Sui’s object model, Programmable Transaction Blocks, and zkLogin support efficient multi-party settlements and user onboarding. The integration aims to standardize EV charging infrastructure as a digital asset, addressing inefficiencies in data fragmentation and capital access that have historically hindered network growth.
