UK and Taiwan deepen trade and technology cooperation
The UK and Taiwan advanced trade and technology ties through annual talks, a new science arrangement, and export finance cooperation, aiming to boost digital trade, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing.
The UK and Taiwan concluded the 28th annual UK-Taiwan Trade Talks in London, co-chaired by Minister for Trade Lord Sarwar and Taiwan’s Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs Cynthia Kiang. Discussions focused on strengthening trade and investment, digital trade, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and resilient supply chains. The talks provided a platform to review progress and identify new opportunities for economic cooperation between the two economies.
Ministers engaged with a Taiwanese business delegation to explore trade and investment expansion, while Taiwanese businesses visited the UK to strengthen commercial partnerships. A wider programme of engagement accompanied the talks, highlighting practical steps to deepen economic ties and explore investment opportunities across sectors.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between UK Export Finance and Taiwan EximBank to enhance cooperation on export credit opportunities. The agreement aims to facilitate trade financing and support businesses in both economies seeking to expand their commercial activities.
The UK-Taiwan Science, Innovation and Technology Arrangement was signed to formalise collaboration between the UK Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade and Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council. The framework will drive joint research and development in semiconductors, space, telecommunications, net zero, and AI standards.
