‘Invest with Iraq’: PM sets out vision for new economic future
Iraq’s Prime Minister outlined a vision for economic growth and regional stability at the UN, shifting from military to economic cooperation and inviting global investment.
Iraq’s Prime Minister, Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi, told the UN General Assembly that Iraq seeks to strengthen its role as an economic power and regional bridge, emphasizing institutional control over security decisions. He highlighted reforms aimed at building a stable state, consolidating sovereignty, and creating conditions for development and investment following the end of the international coalition’s mission in Iraq.
Al-Zaidi announced a shift from military to economic and development cooperation with strategic partners, calling for vigilance against extremism and corruption while pursuing institutional reforms. He emphasized sustainable economic and financial reforms, leveraging global expertise to improve services and attract domestic and foreign investment.
The Prime Minister described Iraq’s ambition to become a global energy hub and address concerns over transport and maritime navigation disruptions affecting energy prices. He outlined plans to diversify oil export routes and develop energy corridors linking Iraq with Türkiye, Jordan, Syria, and global markets.
Al-Zaidi presented the Development Road project as Iraq’s vision for regional integration, linking trade, investment, and energy from the Grand Faw Port through Türkiye to Europe. He invited global investors to engage with Iraq, citing its resources, market, location, and commitment to stability and cooperation.
