Unity’s CLI, a single terminal binary, enables developers to manage and run Unity from their existing editors and terminals without switching tools. Since July 2026, more than 226,000 logged-in users have executed over 200 million CLI events, primarily commands executed by coding agents and automation rather than direct human input. The CLI’s design allows scripts, CI pipelines, and AI agents to interact with Unity uniformly, reducing the need for manual setup or context switching in development environments.

During the tracked period, 98% of CLI runs originated from coding agents and automation, while terminal input accounted for just 0.2% and CI pipelines for 0.3%. Most human interactions involved initial setup tasks such as installing the Pipeline package, opening projects, signing in, or configuring agents to connect to Unity before handing off control to automation.

The Unity CLI’s integration with AI agents has surged following the release of official plugins for Claude Code, Codex, and Grok, which provide Unity-specific skills including CLI-driven operations. These plugins allow agents to work within Unity as intended by Unity’s teams, while third-party agents like Cursor and Cline can still connect via the CLI, preserving developer choice in agent selection.

Geographic data shows the largest user bases for the Unity CLI are in the United States, Japan, and South Korea, followed by Germany and Turkey. Unity plans to expand agent support and share further insights, with all usage figures derived from aggregated beta telemetry collected between July 20 and October 15, 2026, excluding employees and users who opted out.
