Create custom monitors in Vercel Observability
Vercel introduces custom monitors in Observability to generate alerts based on specific query results, supporting metrics like AI Gateway costs and Core Web Vitals, with options for anomaly detection or fixed thresholds.
Vercel has launched custom monitors within its Observability platform, enabling users to set up alerts triggered by specific metric queries. These monitors can track individual metrics such as response time or ratios like error rates, with configurable detection methods including statistical anomaly detection or fixed thresholds. Users can define detection windows, apply filters, and group data to refine alert criteria. Monitors can be created directly from Observability charts, preset options, or via the team settings page.
For advanced users, custom monitors can also be defined in a JSON file and deployed using the Vercel CLI command vercel monitors add. The CLI provides a schema and examples via vercel monitors schema --type custom to guide configuration. Alerts can be routed to email, Slack, Vercel Inbox, push notifications, or team-level webhooks, ensuring flexibility in how teams receive critical updates.
The new feature is available on Pro and Enterprise plans with Observability Plus, which includes built-in alerts at no additional cost. Custom monitors incur a charge of $0.0035 per GB of data scanned, aligning costs with usage. This pricing applies only to the custom monitor feature, while Observability Plus remains the base requirement for access.
To assist with incident response, users can add contextual information for Vercel Agent to reference when investigating alerts. Documentation is provided to guide users through the configuration process. Teams can start creating custom monitors immediately or explore detailed setup instructions in the official configuration documentation.
