Step 5 Preview now available on AI Gateway
Vercel’s AI Gateway now supports Step 5 Preview, StepFun’s model optimized for coding and analysis, with a 1M-token context window and no platform fees on inference.
Step 5 Preview, developed by StepFun, has been added to Vercel’s AI Gateway, expanding the platform’s model offerings for agentic coding and professional tasks. The model is designed to handle complex workflows such as building applications, debugging code, financial analysis, and generating research or analytical reports. It supports both text and image inputs, enabling users to process large codebases, document stacks, or visual data like screenshots and charts within a single request. The integration allows developers to leverage Step 5 Preview alongside other coding agents like Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor by updating the Vercel CLI and configuring the model in their agent setup.
AI Gateway serves as a unified interface for accessing multiple language models, offering tools to monitor usage, track costs, and configure retries and failover mechanisms to improve reliability. The service includes performance optimizations to enhance uptime beyond what providers offer independently. Users can also set budgets for API keys, define routing rules, and access built-in custom reporting features to streamline model management and expenditure tracking.
The platform adheres to provider pricing without adding markups, ensuring cost transparency for users who rely on AI Gateway for model inference. No platform fee is charged for inference, including requests made under Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) arrangements, which allows users to integrate their own API keys while benefiting from AI Gateway’s additional features.
Vercel provides a public list of all language models currently available on AI Gateway, including Step 5 Preview. The integration aims to simplify access to advanced models for developers and enterprises, reducing operational overhead while maintaining flexibility in model selection and deployment.
