Gemini Omni: What it is and how to use it
Google’s Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash enables AI video generation and editing across Gemini, Google Flow, YouTube Shorts, and AI Studio with strong prompt adherence and multi-input support.
Gemini Omni is Google’s latest AI video model, designed to generate and edit short videos from text prompts, images, or frames with dialogue and sound effects. It operates within Google’s chatbot, creative platform, YouTube Shorts, and AI Studio, offering prompt adherence that reliably translates user instructions into video content. The model is currently identified as Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash, though versions may update over time.
Google positions Omni as its default video model, replacing the older Veo, which is now deprecated in the Gemini API and will be phased out in the Gemini app. Omni excels at creating short clips between four and ten seconds in resolutions up to 4K on paid tiers, suitable for social media teasers or product previews. Longer sequences require stitching clips or extending scenes in 10-second increments, with higher-tier plans offering extended limits.
Users can access Omni with a free personal plan, but frequent generation requires upgrading to a paid Google AI plan starting at $4.99 per month for Google AI Plus. The recommended platform for beginners is Google Flow, which provides a user-friendly interface for entering prompts and uploading reference images to guide video creation.
To generate a video, users enter a prompt in Google Flow, confirm credit usage, and wait for rendering, which varies in time based on complexity. Once complete, videos can be previewed, edited, or downloaded, with options to refine prompts or regenerate entirely new clips. Editing specific elements requires explicit instructions to preserve unchanged parts of the scene.
