Amazon EC2 C8g instances now available in additional regions
AWS has expanded availability of Amazon EC2 C8g instances to four new regions, featuring AWS Graviton4 processors with up to 30% better performance than Graviton3-based instances.
Amazon Web Services announced that Amazon EC2 C8g instances, powered by AWS Graviton4 processors, are now available in AWS Europe (Paris), AWS Africa (Cape Town), AWS Israel (Tel Aviv), and AWS Canada West (Calgary) regions. The instances are designed for compute-intensive workloads, including high performance computing, batch processing, and machine learning inference. AWS states that Graviton4 processors deliver up to 30% better performance compared to Graviton3-based instances, with improvements across databases, web applications, and Java workloads.
The new instances are built on the AWS Nitro System, which offloads virtualization, storage, and networking functions to dedicated hardware to enhance performance and security. C8g instances offer up to 3x more vCPUs and memory than Graviton3-based C7g instances, with 12 different sizes available, including two bare metal options. Networking capabilities include up to 50 Gbps enhanced bandwidth and 40 Gbps to Amazon EBS.
AWS Graviton4 processors are positioned as providing the best performance and energy efficiency for a broad range of workloads on Amazon EC2. The processors are reported to be up to 40% faster for databases, 30% faster for web applications, and 45% faster for large Java applications compared to Graviton3. The instances are intended for workloads such as gaming, video encoding, scientific modeling, distributed analytics, and CPU-based ML inference.
