Amazon EC2 C8id and M8id instances are now available in additional AWS Regions
AWS has expanded availability of EC2 C8id and M8id instances to additional regions, offering up to 22.8 TB of local NVMe storage and improved performance for compute and memory-intensive workloads.
Amazon EC2 C8id and M8id instances, featuring up to 22.8 TB of local NVMe-based SSD storage, are now available in new AWS regions. C8id instances have been added in Asia Pacific (Sydney) and Canada (Central), while M8id instances are now accessible in Asia Pacific (Mumbai) and Canada (Central). These instances provide three times the vCPUs, memory, and local storage compared to prior sixth-generation models, targeting workloads requiring high-speed, low-latency storage such as media processing and real-time analytics.
The new instances deliver up to 43% higher compute performance and 3.3 times more memory bandwidth than the previous C6id and M6id models. For I/O-intensive database workloads, performance improves by up to 46%, and query results for real-time analytics are up to 30% faster. Customers can also adjust network and Amazon EBS bandwidth by 25% using EC2 instance bandwidth weighting, allowing finer control over resource allocation for optimized workload performance.
C8id instances are designed for compute-heavy tasks like video encoding and image processing, while M8id instances suit workloads balancing compute, memory, and high-speed storage, such as data logging and medium-sized data stores. Both instance types support Elastic Fabric Adapter (EFA) networking on select sizes, including 24xlarge and metal variants, enhancing performance for high-throughput applications.
