Amazon GameLift Servers adds CPU burstability for container fleets
Amazon GameLift Servers introduces CPU burstability for container fleets, enabling flexible resource allocation to handle fluctuating game server demands without performance trade-offs.
Amazon GameLift Servers now offers CPU burstability for container fleets, allowing developers to adjust compute resources dynamically. Previously, fixed CPU values restricted both container density and runtime limits, forcing trade-offs between efficiency and performance. The new feature decouples these constraints, enabling higher packing density while preserving headroom for peak workloads. This addresses the bursty nature of game server demands, where CPU usage spikes during critical operations like physics or AI processing.
CPU burstability is configured per container group definition and operates as an opt-in feature within existing container fleet pricing. Developers can now optimize resource allocation by setting baseline CPU levels while permitting bursts into unused instance capacity during demand spikes. This eliminates the need to over-provision resources to maintain performance during peak moments. The feature is designed to support high-density deployments without sacrificing responsiveness or stability.
The feature is available in all AWS Regions where container fleets are supported, excluding the China Regions. It integrates seamlessly with existing Amazon GameLift Servers workflows, requiring no additional configuration beyond the container group definition. Developers can enable CPU burstability through the same interfaces used for fleet management, maintaining consistency with established operational practices.
CPU burstability for Amazon GameLift Servers container fleets is included at no additional cost as part of standard container fleet pricing. To implement the feature, developers should refer to the Amazon GameLift Servers Developer Guide or the product page for detailed configuration steps. This update reflects AWS’s focus on providing flexible, cost-effective solutions for game server workloads.
