AWS announces a new Availability Zone in the Europe (London) Region
AWS opened a fourth Availability Zone in the Europe (London) Region on 14 May 2025, adding new AI and ML capacity and improving fault tolerance for customers in eu-west-2.
Amazon Web Services announced on 14 May 2025 the addition of a fourth Availability Zone in the Europe (London) Region, designated eu-west-2d. The expansion increases total infrastructure capacity in the region to meet rising demand for cloud compute services. Customers in the United Kingdom and surrounding areas now have access to an additional zone for deploying workloads with improved redundancy and geographic separation.
The new Availability Zone supports next-generation accelerated instances, including Amazon EC2 Trn3 and P6 instances, alongside general-purpose compute. AI and machine-learning teams can run model training and inference workloads entirely within the London Region, reducing latency and simplifying data governance. The zone also offers additional fault isolation, enabling customers to build highly available, resilient architectures across four distinct Availability Zones.
With eu-west-2d now operational, customers can distribute applications across all four Availability Zones in the Europe (London) Region. This configuration enhances fault tolerance and supports high-availability architectures by allowing workloads to fail over automatically between zones. No changes to existing tooling or workflows are required to access the new zone, which is available through the AWS Management Console, APIs, and standard AWS interfaces.
Standard pricing for the Europe (London) Region applies to the new Availability Zone. Customers can begin using eu-west-2d immediately.
