AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (AWS DRS) has introduced Recovery Plans, a feature designed to automate the recovery of multi-server applications by defining and executing a predefined sequence of server launches. Previously, administrators had to manually track dependencies and launch servers one at a time, which was time-consuming and prone to errors. Recovery Plans allow users to group servers into sequential steps with configurable delays, ensuring applications recover in the correct order. This capability is particularly useful for applications composed of databases, application tiers, and supporting services that require specific startup sequences.
The new feature includes a drill mode for non-disruptive testing of recovery procedures, enabling teams to validate their plans without impacting production environments. Users can also incorporate approval steps to introduce human oversight where necessary, ensuring critical decisions are reviewed before proceeding.
