MOD receives new signal intelligence capability from Babcock’s AI-powered Nomad platform

Babcock International has supplied its Nomad platform to the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) under a contract fulfilling an urgent operational requirement for the Armed Forces. The system is the company’s first fully AI-powered product designed for military and security teams operating in contested environments, particularly during Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions. Nomad integrates new connected capabilities that improve situational awareness and provide mission advantage both on and around the battlefield.

The platform processes enemy and target communications by cleaning, transcribing, translating and analysing voice and text data to deliver instant, actionable insights across any domain globally. It enables operators to understand enemy communications in real-time at the edge, reducing reliance on linguists in the field. This capability allows military personnel to build detailed intelligence on a target’s position, movements and capabilities for immediate operational decisions.

Louise Atkinson, Chief Executive of Babcock’s Land and Mission Systems business, highlighted the platform’s relevance in a volatile global security landscape. She emphasised that Nomad demonstrates Babcock’s ability to innovate using AI-driven technologies to better support the Armed Forces and Security Services, empowering front-line capabilities.

The Nomad technology was showcased to visitors at the DVD event held at UTAC Millbrook, where attendees received demonstrations of the system’s capabilities and operational applications.
