eBay for Charity: 2025 in Review
eBay for Charity raised $198 million globally in 2025, surpassing its five-year fundraising goal by 43% and supporting 225,000 charities since 2003.
The useful question is what changes for users, developers or buyers, and whether the announcement stays industry context or becomes something people can actually use.
eBay for Charity concluded 2025 with a record $198 million raised for nonprofits worldwide through in-platform donations and charity auctions. The program, active since 2003, has now supported 225,000 enrolled charities and exceeded its $600 million five-year goal set for 2021–2025 by 43%, totaling $860 million raised. The milestone reflects the sustained engagement of buyers, sellers, and partners who transformed routine transactions into charitable contributions.
In April 2025, eBay partnered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to auction exclusive experiences and collectibles, including a Magical Dream Vacation package at Walt Disney World and a 2025 NBA All-Star signed basketball. The collaboration generated $74,000, with additional support from a pop-up event in New York featuring 90s memorabilia, including items donated by Sarah Michelle Gellar, which raised $124,000 for the foundation.
The program also joined forces with the V Foundation for Cancer Research in a summer auction honoring comedian Norm Macdonald, featuring items from his comedy community such as meet-and-greets with Adam Sandler and Seth MacFarlane. This initiative raised $183,000 for cancer research, demonstrating the platform’s ability to mobilize high-profile support for critical causes.
A key highlight was the partnership with the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in Tulsa, where a seller’s use of eBay for Charity and eBay Live helped the organization raise nearly $400,000 since October 2024, a 45% increase year-over-year. The program’s growth underscores its role in empowering communities to drive meaningful change through everyday transactions.
